Bonds at a Discount

Assignment Details

The first-year accountant in your organization does not understand the difference between the straight-line method and the effective interest method in amortizing a bond’s discount. You decide that the best way to help her understand is to develop a PowerPoint presentation that includes a comprehensive example.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that explains the difference between the straight-line method and the effective interest method in amortizing a bond’s discount. Provide a comprehensive example that includes the following:

  • Journal entries to issue the bonds at a discount
  • The adjusting entries for the amortization of the bond discount using the effective interest method
  • The payment of bond interest to bondholders and the repayment of the bonds

In addition, provide detail on the difference in the amortization of the bond discount under the straight-line and effective interest methods and the impact on the financial statements.

The PowerPoint presentation must include a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 15 slides. The first slide must be a title slide, and the final slide will be your references. The text of the main points of the presentation must be written in the Notes section of each slide. Each slide should contain at least 150 words in the notes section.

NOTE: Do not present slides that contain too much information. Keep the slides clean and uncluttered by using bullet points. The Notes section allows you to provide as much content and details about the presentation as needed.

Submitting your assignment in American Psychological Association (APA) format means that, at a minimum, you will need the following:

  • Title slide: Remember the running head. The title should be in all capitals.
  • Length: There should be a minimum of 12 slides.
  • Body slides: These begin on the slide following the title slide and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). The typeface should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics, except as required for APA-level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your presentation for this assignment is minimum 12 slides. In-body academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
  • Reference slide: References that align with your in-body academic sources are listed on the final slide of your presentation. The references must be in APA format using appropriate spacing, hanging indent, italics, and uppercase and lowercase usage as appropriate for the type of resource used. Remember, the Reference slide is not a bibliography but a further listing of the abbreviated in-body citations used in the paper. Every referenced item must have a corresponding in-body citation.

Please submit your assignment.
