Introduction to the ePortfolio [WLO: 1] [CLO: 2]

Throughout your degree, you will be building a personal electronic portfolio, or “ePortfolio.” The ePortfolio will serve as a tool for you to track your professional and academic progress. In MPH699 (the capstone or final course), you will use the ePortfolio to reflect on your development across the degree. Once you graduate, it can also be used to demonstrate your skills and competencies to potential employers and the professional community.

This discussion will introduce you to Folio, the ePortfolio tool being used by this university. As an University of Arizona Global Campus student, you not only will have access to Folio during your time at University of Arizona Global Campus, but you will retain lifetime unlimited access after leaving the university, without fees or capacity limit.

Getting Started in Folio

  • Review the Folio Quick Start GuideLinks to an external site..

Setting up your Account and Bio

  • Now you are ready to set up your account in Folio by signing in and creating your Folio profile with a short bio and photo. This should be a representation of you that you can share with colleagues and professionals.
  • Once you have a bio, export it from Folio as a pdf and upload it to the discussion board to share with your classmates. Review a few of your classmates’ ePortfolios. Look for ePortfolios that have not yet been examined by others in this discussion board.

In the discussion board describe your experience with Folio. How could you use it as a means for capturing your best work and sharing it with others? What other uses do you think Folio offers to you or to other students during and after their program?

Guided Response: Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. After reviewing at least two other students’ ePortfolio bios, give them some feedback. What additional information would you like to see as a colleague or an employer?

Folio, the ePortfolio tool being used by this university, provides an excellent platform for medical college students to track their professional and academic progress throughout their degree. This personal electronic portfolio serves as a valuable resource for students to reflect on their development and showcase their skills and competencies to potential employers and the professional community.

One of the main benefits of using Folio is its accessibility. As a University of Arizona Global Campus student, not only will you have access to Folio during your time at the university, but you will also retain lifetime unlimited access after leaving the university, without any fees or capacity limits. This means that students can continue to update and enhance their ePortfolio as they progress in their medical careers.

In terms of capturing best work and sharing it with others, Folio offers a range of features and functionalities. Students can upload documents, presentations, and other artifacts that represent their achievements and showcase their expertise in specific areas of medicine. They can also include reflections and narratives to provide context and insights into their work.

Additionally, Folio provides students with the opportunity to engage with their peers and receive feedback. Through the discussion board, students can review and provide feedback on their classmates’ ePortfolios. This feedback can be valuable for improving and enhancing their own ePortfolio, as well as gaining insights from different perspectives.

After completing their program, Folio continues to be a useful tool for students. It can be used to demonstrate their skills and competencies to potential employers and collaborators. Students can share their ePortfolio with professional networks and organizations, providing them with a comprehensive overview of their academic and professional journey.

In conclusion, Folio serves as a comprehensive and accessible tool for medical college students to track their progress, showcase their achievements, and share their best work with others. Its functionalities, such as document uploads, reflections, and feedback opportunities, make it an invaluable resource for students during and after their program. By utilizing Folio, students can effectively document and present their capabilities to potential employers and the professional community.

As an ePortfolio captures the academic and professional journey of a student, there are a few additional information that I would like to see as a colleague or an employer when reviewing a student’s ePortfolio bio. Firstly, it would be helpful to have a clear overview of the student’s academic background, such as the medical college they attended, any honors or awards received, and any relevant coursework or specialized training. Additionally, including details about clinical experiences, research projects, and any published work would provide further insight into the student’s practical skills and contributions to the field of medicine. Lastly, it would be beneficial to see the student’s career goals and aspirations, as this would allow me to better understand their motivations and future plans in the medical field.
